Hi there! I am an Autocad and 3d max user myself and for that you need to have a fairly strong pc. Try aiming for a core two duo processor (at least 2.0Ghz minimal) but quad core would be ideal if you can afford it, also at least 2G of memory. ALso don’t skimp on the video card 512 to 1G is ideal. A very good 22″ monitor is also wonderful specially for undertaking drawings in autocad, attempt to invest also in a pen tablet for your adobe items but that is totally optional.

I’d add that the motherboard must be capable of 8GB of RAM (4GB if you’re looking at laptps now – maybe eight in six months or so) to permit for long term expansion. Autocad employed to run quite nicely in 1GB.

Also, unless you want to watch the video getting drawn slowly, search for an nVidia 8800-class or far better (9800) video card.

I’d remain away from Dell Inspiron, HP and Compaq (lack of top quality) and Dell Latitude and Sony (excellent, but overpriced).

ASUS and ACER appear to be coming out with decently priced merchandise in their larger finish lines. (Gateway did for a although, but now they seem to be attempting difficult to remain in final place again.)
