The normal is the typical full price, complete feature product.
The academic version is just that for academics/students.

If you are a student in HS or college, you send them a copy of your student ID, or schedule, and you get the value break.
Its marked as an ACADEMIC version only, but it operates exactly the exact same as the non-academic version.

When I was going to school, I got all my computer software this way. Photoshop, Quark, Illustrator, Pagemaker (thats how lengthy ago I was in school).
