I prefer http://www.openoffice.org/ for Workplace applications. Heh, forgot to mention that it is Free of charge!
Be confident to set the preferences to conserve the files as .doc, .xls, and .pps or it will save to its native format and M$ Workplace users will not be able to read them.

The company I work for lets us buy fully licensed copies of Office 2007 premium for $ 20. Maybe your company would have something similar.
If not, I’m going to say the same thing as the others. Openoffice.org has a good price point (FREE). What I did to resolve this problem though was download the free Microsoft Virtual PC software.

It’s a bit of work because it requires that you install Windows XP, but that’s also one of the perks. If you don’t like the “new and improved vista” then run Windows XP through Virtual PC . That way you can run your old software that you alredy have.
