My name is Jeff Edwards, and I am a freelance programmer and the proprietor of Edwards Custom Software, Inc. This site is dedicated to getting in touch with people who could use my services and letting them know what I can do for them.

Flight Simulation: software archeology. For the past several years, I've spent an appreciable part of my time working on 1980s vintage flight simulators: rehosting them, upgrading them, and getting them to communicate with each other as well as with various new subsystems. If you need some software work - including assembly language programming - along these lines, I can probably help.

General Programming. I've developed software for wide variety of applications over the years, often in an engineering environment and generally working in assembly or other low level language. Most of my projects nowadays follow a similar strain: work in straight 'C' on the sort of applications that draw on a lot of general computer knowledge but that are too one-of-a-kind to have any shrink-wrapped solutions or methodology. Here are some of the sorts of things I could help with:

Developing applications for Linux, X, and related systems. My most recent Linux experience includes developing a simple device driver for a data aquisition card and prototyping a simulation executive running under the RTAI real-time kernel extensions; previous work included numerious interface and general data manipulation programs as well as couple of fairly complete Gtk+ GUIs.

Developing stand-alone applications for DOS and console mode Win9x. Here I prefer DJGPP for most things and PowerC where 16-bit code is required.

Rehosting has been another major focus of my work for various clients over the last few years, and I can help you with these kinds of things:

Converting software from various languages and platforms to 'C', Linux, X, and related systems.

Developing software to emulate old computers, graphics hardware, etc. on current machines.

Arrangements:

I prefer to work on a fixed-price basis when appropriate, but I usually work on an hourly basis to avoid the expense of nailing down all of a project's requirements and completion conditions before starting.
I normally invoice through ECSI, net 30 days, with discounts for early payment.
