You will be hard pressed to uncover a more affordable laptop. I am not saying one particular does not exist, but I don’t see them in any advertisements or on the net.

Pass, Celerons blow donkey dong. Stay as far away as you can from a celeron! Find one with a Pentium M or a Core 2. AMD turions are pretty ok too. Also, 512MB ram is small, you really need a gig. XP home edition has serious problems, you would have to upgrade to XP Pro.
It sounds like a good by, but make sure you can add another 512mb ram chip, you are going to need it if youa re messing around with webcam and stuff of that nature.
Remember this: Vista is about to be released in January and that system will CHOKE if you try to run the latest Windows. That’s why it’s so cheap. They know that it’s under-powered and they have to get rid of it NOW before Vista comes out and that computer becomes a paperweight.
