This is README.TXT for the Beta2 version of CacheViewAssistant version 1.0. CacheViewAssistant builds a list of files in the Internet Explorer cache directory tree, or any other user selectable directory tree, and launches the Internet Explorer to display them as slideshow. Initially, the first index page is displayed in the left 80% of the screen and the slideshow controls are displayed in the right 20%. Moving the cursor over one of the links in an index page 'selects'; clicking the selected link causes the item to be displayed. The slideshow controls function as follows: "Slideshow" control group: > Start the slideshow in the forward direction < Start the slideshow in the reverse direction X Stop the slideshow << Increase the amount of time between pictures >> Decrease the amount of time between pictures "Individual Item" control group: |< Display the last item in the total list < Display the previous item @ (re)Display the currently selected item > Display the next item >| Display the last item in the total list "Index Page" control group: |< Display the last index page < Display the previous index page @ (re)Display the index page containing the currently selected item > Display the next index page >| Display the last index page "Entire Index" group Index Display the Entire Index -------------------- Notes 1) The browser history mechanism (ie, BACK and FORWARD) are bypassed while the CacheViewAssistant page is active because I have noted occasional browser crashes when these buttons were made active. 2) Occasionally a VERY large animated .GIF file will take many seconds or possibly even minutes to update. To continue before the .GIF has completed, use the browser STOP button. -------------------- Limitations 1) Only Internet Explorer version 4.0 and up are supported. 2) Only graphic type files (.GIF, .JPG, ,BMP) are supported. 3) This version of CacheViewAssistant is limited to 20000 files and 2000 directories searched. 4) This version begins searching with the \Windows\Temporary Internet Files\ directory by default. This is changable via menu selection. 5) Only files whose sizes are at least 100 bytes are currently processed. -------------------- To Do Improvements planned for future releases include: * The minimum file size will be user selectable, possibly on a per-file-extension basis. * HTML files will be supported in addition to graphic files * Various sort options will be provided. * Netscape browsers will be supported (eventually). -------------------- Author Please address comments and criticism to: Jeff Edwards Edwards Custom Software, Inc.
